Hoodoo How-To With Dr. Edward T

Pumpkin Spells & Halloween Traditions

Halloween is undoubtedly the most magical time of the year in many people’s minds, but do you know what special, seasonal spells are traditionally cast?

For Protection

Fierce-faced lanterns carved out of pumpkins — and, in colder climates where pumpkins are rare, turnips — are apotropaic charms intended to ward off evil spirits and protect travellers and households from harm. Make a Jack O’Lantern to keep the ghosties and ghoulies at bay. It is said that when you see the flame flicker and dance, a spirit is near…

For Prosperity

Take 3 fresh pumpkin seeds, sprinkle cinnamon and nutmeg on them, and let it dry. Put the dry seeds in your wallet. This will increase your prosperity and protect you from financial loss.

For Love

To draw a lover to you, make a petition paper with your target’s name on it in Dove’s blood ink. Place honey, 3 rose petals, 3 cinnamon sticks, ginger, and vanilla in a clean carved out pumpkin. Bake the pumpkin in your oven until it is soft. This will soften your lover’s heart. Bury the pumpkin in your yard to draw them home to you. (Don’t have a yard? Use a very small pumpkin and bury it in a potted plant outside.)

Enjoy this season and may all things pumpkin bring you love, prosperity, protection, and healing energies.

Deacon Millett With Treats For The Dead

Sugar and Spice and Everything Nice

Many traditional favorites are served for Dias de los Muertos, both for the living and the dead. Ancestral meals in cemeteries and on altars are commonplace. Unrefined pure cane sugar, molded in the form of cones, is known as Piloncillo — and features prominently. Seek it out, don’t substitute!
Calabaza en tacha, a popular and traditional dish for Día de los Muertos, is made using pumpkin in the U.S.

  • In a large heavy pot, bring 2 small piloncillo cones (hard brown sugar, about 16 ounces), 1 sliced orange, 4 cinnamon sticks, two star anise, and 4 cups water to a boil.
  • Add the flesh of one 4-5 pound pumpkin cut in 3″ sections. Cover and simmer 20-30 minutes until tender.
  • Remove pumpkin to a tray and continue to reduce the syrup. When thickened, strain out oranges and spices, then return pumpkin pieces to the pot.
  • Serve in a bowl of warm milk or with a drizzle of syrup.

Atole, a breakast porridge of masa harina (corn flour), dates back to the Aztecs.

  • In a large heavy pot, bring 3 cups water, 1 small piloncillo cone (hard brown sugar, 8 ounces), beans from 1 vanilla pod, and 4 cinnamon sticks to a boil.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together 3/4 cup masa harina (not cornmeal), several pinches of salt, and 3 cups milk until completely smooth.
  • Pour into pot with sugar mixture and bring to a boil; reduce heat and stir occasionally until mixture is smooth and thick.
  • Remove spices to serve. Add extra milk for a thinner, more drinkable treat.

Calaveras, Mexican sugar skulls, are more fun to make than to eat.

  • Mix 4 cups sugar and 6 teaspoons meringue powder. Add water by the teaspoon and mix until it feels like wet beach sand.
  • Tightly pack the mixture into front and back skull molds, flip out onto a flat surface, and let dry overnight.
  • Cement the fronts and backs together with royal icing. Decorate!
Candle Spell With Rev. Sister Jacqueline!

A Candle Devotion To Increase Greatness In Peace, Clarity In Forward Vision, And Brotherly Love For One Another

The month of July is when we celebrate the birthday of the United States. The Founders, or the gentlemen who wrote the articles that would become the Constitution of the United States, looked to this new land as their “mother,” and felt a great sense of pride in the formation of a land where freedom for many things would be treasured and revered. The writing of the Declaration of Independence took many months, and July 4th was chosen as the birthday for America. In times past, parades and other outward symbols of patriotic pride were displayed, and more modern celebrations include barbecues and fireworks in the evening.

America was founded on the premise that a person could live the life that they wanted to make for themselves here. That premise still stands today, yet many differing opinions and thoughts on freedom have sometimes placed Americans at odds with each other. At times, one person’s view of freedom encroaches on another’s, causing dysfunction — even a Civil war — because of opposing views.

Still, the United States and the values that Americans hold dearly are the catalyst to make many people from around the World risk their life and limb to come to America. It is their Hope to create a life without violence and strife, political corruption and scrutiny, religious persecution and shame — the same ideals of that document signed over 242 years ago. Here is a candle devotion to the continued peace, greatness, and brotherly love that all Americans so desire.

INGREDIENTS:
Bible or Book of Psalms
Small paring knife, awl, screwdriver, or ritual knife
1 RED 7-day glass ‘novena’ style devotional candle
1 WHITE 7-day glass ‘novena’ style devotional candle
1 BLUE 7-day glass ‘novena’ style devotional candle
Lemon Juice or Florida Water
“Clarity” Anointing Oil
“Peace” or “Peaceful Home” Anointing Oil
“Attraction” Anointing Oil
White sheet of paper for you to write your desires/affirmations/prayers for unity in the United States and abundance, foresight, and forward movement for all citizens.
Optional: An item that represents America to you, such as a small Statue of Liberty, flag, eagle, or any other trinket or souvenir that reminds you of the United States.

1. Carve three holes in the form of a triangle (one on top, one to the lower left, one to the lower right) in each candle. Shake extra wax shavings out of the candle top.
2. With paper toweling, wipe down each candle with lemon juice or Florida Water. Let sit to dry.
3. Write your petition paper, remembering to include any personal names or prayers in the wording you write for the good of all United States residents.
4. Place petition paper in aluminum pie pan or oven-tempered glass baking dish (aka Pyrex or Anchor Hocking).
5. Pour a small amount of the Attraction Oil to fill each hole in the red candle.
6. Pour a small amount of the Clarity Oil to fill each hole in the white candle.
7. Pour a small amount of the Peace/Peaceful Home Oil to fill each hole in the blue candle.
8. Place the candles in a triangular position (see below) with the white candle at the apex or top of the triangle, the blue candle to the diagonal lower right from the white, and the red candle to the lower diagonal left of the white candle.

9. Pray Psalm 133 for Brotherly Love.
10. Pray Psalm 25 for Guidance and Protection.
11. You may then end your time in prayer and meditation with personal requests.

Burn these candles in a safe location in your home or personal altar/temple room until they are finished. If you must extinguish the candles while leaving the home, please do NOT blow them out, but use a saucer over them to snuff them out or use a candle snuffer. Re-light them when you are ready to resume your devotional time.

Once the candles have finished completely, take the glass containers and toss them in the recycling can or trash. Take the petition paper and fold it into a small square and tape or tack with a push pin over inside doorway to your home, so that all who enter your home come in peace and with brotherly love for you and your loved ones

Juice Up Your Love Luck & Travel Far with Cat Yronwode & Deacon Millett

Recipes for Love’s Passion and Long Journeys

This week’s special occasions bring to mind these tasty treats!

VALENTINE PEAR SALAD

Hoodoo Psychic Cat Yronwode shares this recipe in the book “Hoodoo Food”:

  • 1 can Bartlett pear halves in juice (love and fertility)
  • 1/4 cup Cinnamon Red Hots candies, to taste (fiery love)
  • Red food colouring (love and passion)

Pour pear liquid into a small saucepan and add Red Hots. Simmer until candies dissolve, stirring to prevent scorching, then remove from heat. Stir in a drop of food colouring, then add pears, gently, so as not to break them. Spoon sauce over pears repeatedly. When cool, place in refrigerator. Serve on lettuce as a salad or on vanilla ice cream. Valentine pears are a form of Red Fast Luck.

PANCHA-AMRITA

Hoodoo Psychic Deacon Millett shares this recipe in the book “Hoodoo Honey and Sugar Spells”:

This Hindu prescription is said to have purifying virtues. Described in “The Master Key to Occult Secrets” by Henri Gamache, it is drunk before undertaking any big deal, engaging in money matters, or setting out on any long or dangerous journey. The liquid is prepared as follows:

  • 1 quart milk
  • 1/4 lb. butter
  • 1/4 lb. sugar
  • 1/2 lb. honey

The butter is melted and mixed thoroughly with the sugar. The honey is mixed with the milk. Then the two are mixed together.

Travel Safely with Hoodoo Psychic Marin Graves

A Talisman To Bring Luck & Protection Worldwide

Travel, though rewarding, can also induce anxiety if you’re unfamiliar with your surroundings. If you travel often for work or personal reasons, but still feel uncertainty with new places (driving in different cities or fear of being alone where you’re unknown), there is a psychic tool you can take on the road with you for protection.

This tool is called a talisman and, simply put, it’s an object you put purposeful energy into for specific reasons. In this case, you could infuse the object with energy to keep you safe while you’re traveling. For the purposes of protection, I highly recommend using money as your talisman.

Money is an excellent talisman used in folk magic, often associated with luck or protection worldwide. Traditionally in the US, the silver dime is considered the luckiest coin (more on this shortly). In Chinese culture, “money charms” constructed of brass coins and red knots hang in homes. Europeans use coins made of silver and personally marked (adding an initial or an X on the coin) for luck.

The US distinction of the good luck dimes originates from the time period when they were created and the story of the Roman God, Mercury. In ancient times, studying planetary movement was both divination and entertainment, and the planet Mercury was known to be fast, orbiting the sun in only 8 days.

So when the Romans named the planets for their pantheon of Gods, Mercury became the swift messenger known for assisting travelers to their destination. The US minted Mercury dimes that bore the image of the God’s head in his winged helmet, made from silver, from 1918 until 1945. These coins are absolutely the best you can find.

Here are several things to consider when creating your travel talisman:

1. Obtain a silver Mercury dime from eBay, a coin shop, or various online stores from coin collectors. You can also purchase red string, but this is optional and dependent on how you choose to carry your talisman.

2. Pay attention to the year the coin was minted. If you were born between those years, you might want to buy a coin that coincides with your birth year. Or, if not, numerology can help you select your coin. For example, a coin minted in 1940 signifies the number 5, associated with speed and action (1+9+4+0 = 14, 1+4 = 5).

3. Once you have the coin, you’ll need to charge it by placing it in the palm of your hand and grasping it, while setting the intention (through prayer or concentration) of safe travel and protection. A drop of Fiery Wall of Protection oil or a cone of Safe Travel incense is always nice, but it’s your personal touch and psychic connection that turn it into your very own talisman. Carry your coin with you at all times, whether in a pocket, wallet, or purse. Or, if you choose to, you can drill a small hole into it and use the red string mentioned earlier to wear it as jewelry undetected under your clothes: a bracelet, necklace, or anklet will work.

Think of your talisman as an insurance policy needing replenishment, and renew its strength or create a new one yearly. May this newfound security grant you wonderful adventures and happy travels!

Attract the Love of Your Life with Sister Jacqueline

St. Valentine Bring Me a Love Candle Spell

February is the month of Love. Love, wild and crazy, breathtaking, passionate LOVE! We all need and crave love as a human, and there are spells by the thousands that are out there for attracting the love of your life.

Here is a St. Valentine Bring Me a Love Candle Spell for you to use to land the one you want.

While many decorative valentines use red as the prominent color, this candle spell uses a pink candle that combines the passion of red and the peace and clarity of white.

St. Valentine Bring Me a Love Candle Spell:

1) Clean a pink glass-encased 7-day “Novena” vigil Candle with Florida Water, Rubbing Alcohol or Lemon Juice to remove any dust particles and residuals from the candle factory. Set aside to dry.

2) Write a petition with the description of what you consider a ‘perfect’ love to be: kind, industrious, thrifty, faithful, hard-working, convivial, fun, sexy, energetic, etc.

3) Carve three small holes in the candle in the shape of a triangle for the placement of the oil. Shake out any spent wax.

4) Anoint the candle with a combination of these oils:

  • 3 drops of Look Me Over Oil (so that a possible suitor will take notice of you)
  • 3 drops of Kiss Me Now! Oil (so that they will hunger for your delectable kiss)
  • 3 drops of Follow Me Boy or Follow Me Girl Oil (so that they will follow after you)
  • 3 drops of Fire of Love Oil (so that they will be enraptured by your magnetism)
Lucky Mojo Curio Co.

5) Place your petition under the candle and place both in a fire-safe container, like an aluminum pie tin, a Pyrex pie dish, or a bakeware to protect you from a fire. Make sure nothing is dangling over it and that no children or pets can get to the candle out of curiosity.

6) Smudge the entire area around the candle with a sweet smelling incense like rose or brown sugar. Recite a prayer near and dear to your heart for St. Valentine to heed your request and hear your plea.

7) Light the candle and spend time in quiet meditative prayer while conjuring in your mind the image of your perfect lover.

8) Keep candle lit until extinguished, if possible. If you feel the need to put the candle out when you are not home, then pinch it out with spit on your fingers or invest in a brass candle snuffer.

Never blow out a candle, as it will indicate you are done with the candle spell burning.

9) Repeat this candle vigil until you get the desired results.

Note: You have to do your part as well. Dress well to go out in public – clean clothes and good grooming works wonders. Be receptive to a compliment. Comment on something to a potential love candidate about the weather, sports, news – anything to get them to notice you.
